Screams, screams and more screams. Is this all that Buio Omega can offer us? Sure they are a black metal band, but surely the music has to sound good even though it sounds like it is recorded in a slaughter house. From first listen you can clearly distinguish the musicianship from the quite frankly scary and wierd whaling vocals. I’ve heard whales that can sing better than this. So lets disect as throughly as possible this Whale of an album, to find out whats wrong with the state of its vocal box.
Planet of the tombs gets off to quite a steady start with an all music track. It’s the kind of black metal music you want to hear. Twang of the bass strings, and the skill on the guitar. It’s just proper metal played at its best. Then all of a sudden comes the sound of a pig going through a blender as the second track ‘Spawned by the winds of the black death’ kicks in with a variety of blast beating from the drums mixed with the screaming throat problems of the singer. The rest to follow is just the same, shocking recorded scremo style metal that was not meant to go on this CD.
Can we blame black metal for being so violent and aggressive? Of course not. If Buio Omega took a leaf out of: Dimmu Borgir, Burzum or Behemoth’s books. Then maybe we could have had a much better produced record. Battlegod productions may have had a bad day when they signed this band and released this CD. So if you’re planning on going out and buying a new Black Metal CD then maybe Planet of the Tombs isn’t the right CD to pick up.
